Marching, marching...

The last couple of years I haven't been a huge fan of my union. I still think it needs to be a stronger voice, and I'm not always in agreement with the decisions it makes. Today, however, after a long (but fun and successful!) day at work, I took three trains to Downtown L.A. to march in protest of the cuts to education. I came home after 8:00, exhausted. But I'm so glad I went, because IF I lose my job next year, I'll know that I made the effort to "say" something.

Week 2 & 3

Accountability: None.

Good exercise days: 0
Good water days: 0

Excuses, if you can call it -- bad bad BAD cold. Too tired to cook, so lots of eating out. Ugh. Got better, then got sick again. Then bad bad BAD pms.

This week MUST be better.

Know what sucks?

Coughing so hard your head hurts.

Losing your voice. The second year in a row.

Poop.

What an amazing day.

There's something about looking through all the footage, and seeing the new First Family -- there's just something so relate-able and so familiar about them that leaves me with no doubt that they can do the job that has been entrusted to them.

I watched the inauguration with my class today and was so happy to witness it with them -- but I was even more happy that they were excited about it and interested in it. What an incredible country we live in, where any one of us can be a force for change.

Sick Day v. 2349234098

Seriously, how many sick days have I used this year? It must be the stress of this year's situation that's got me taking so many days off. I spent all of today in bed after breaking into feverish sweats the last two nights. I'm not "sort of" feeling better, hopefully better enough to get back to work tomorrow. You would think after 3 years of snot and boogies I'd be immune to whatever germs infiltrate my classroom. I SO hate being sick.

Week 1

Week 1:

- Good water days 3
- Good exercise days 3 (this is shocking)
- Days my partner teacher showed up 5 (this is even MORE shocking)

Stress levels high, but those endorphins do a good number on me I guess. By Friday I was exhausted, by Friday night I felt on the tinge of sickness, wake up Saturday morning with a full blown cold. Dang. Only the first week of school. Credible suspects? The boy who was out with the flu the second day of school, the girl who was out with whatever the last day of school, or the boy who shot snot at me when he sneezed walking to the cafeteria. Sadly, I am well enough to go back to school tomorrow. Sad.

Here's hoping I match, or beat, last week. :)

Crossing Fingers...

Rant

People have been pissing me off a lot lately. Am I crabby in my old age or am I just more aware of people taking advantage of situations and, oh, I dunno, ME? Since when do I have TREAT ME LIKE CRAP on my forehead? Whatever. I'm sick of it. 2009 should be my year of not caring. I won't care about being respectful to poopheads. Yes, that's right. Poopheads.

Know what else stinks? Drinking water. I made it my resolution to start drinking my daily intake of water but dude, I am peeing every FIVE MINUTES! Why is drinking water so important, anyway? It's a detriment to my teaching, I've got to say. If I worked in an office building it'd be cool, but when I have to rush out on 25 kids every time I need to ease the pressure on my bladder, it's a bit of a hassle. I dunno how long this is going to let up. I hope I get some positive results from it, though. Oops...TMI?

New Year

I like starting out new with a clean slate come January. And I think we've had a really good start. :) I'm getting ready to go back to school tomorrow, which is a bit of a bummer, but I'm glad I'm going back after having 2 awesome months off -- we did some traveling, saw lots of friends, spent quality time with our families, and quality time with each other. Damon's helping me get the house back together after a late-night game night we had with my cousins yesterday, and I'm getting stuff squared away for the week so that I can concentrate on school. Seriously, I am so lucky to have a husband as supportive as Damon -- who else would be willing to do dishes and laundry so that their wifey can lesson plan?

Sadly, this new beginning is also bittersweet. Tonight I'll be attending the funeral of someone very near and dear to me and to my family. Rest in peace. :(
